The Yuma romaine lettuce outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 is almost cleared by the CDC as “over” as the growing season shifts to California. The last harvest date was April 16th. This is good news. Food is safe again.
There is a lesson to focus on here. Keeping food safe from seed to table isn’t simple, quick or easy. We have the strongest food safety system in the world. It isn’t perfect. It requires study And correction. Quick answers don’t serve our customers. So we will wait for the FDA’s thorough investigation to help us understand the what, when and why’s. The Bad News? In our quick-fix lives, good information that helps and heals can take time. It is worth the wait. Good information may change our food safety process. And That is Good News!
